Description

  • maple and amaranth
  • 80cm. high, 58cm. wide, 47cm. deep; 2ft. 7½in., 1ft. 10¾in., 1ft. 6½in.

Condition

The veneer to the top is in very poor condition (lifting, parts missing) and is very much in need of restoration. A piece of moulding to the base of the stem is missing. One foot is missing and needs replacement in order to stabilize the table. There is a chip to the veneer of the gothic decoration at one corner of the frieze. Once cleaned and given some attention this will be a most charming and unusual piece.

Catalogue Note

This side table is a perfect example for the Troubadour style so popular with the Duchesse de Berry. While the Duchesse wasn't the initiator of the production of light-coloured or neo-Gothic furniture, she certainly contributed to a great extend to the promotion and spread of it.
