Condition

An unusual and attractive set. Generally in tired condition. Chips, marks, scratches and minor losses to the carving and marquetry throughout. Signs of previous restoration to the arms and backs. The upholstery would benefit from a thorough clean. Of impressive shape and proportions.

Catalogue Note

After 1830 the Duchesse de Berry went several times back to her family in Sicily. It is well possible that she commissioned the present armchairs with one of the Royal cabinetmakers during one of her sojourns there.
