Catalogue Note
Wartegg is a Renaissance castle in Switzerland. It was bought by the Marques Marc-Marie de Bombelles in 1792 in order to host the French King Louis XVI during his planned escape from the French Revolution. It remained afterwards a refuge for the various branches of the Bourbon family. In 1860, Louise Marie Thérèse d'Artois (1819-1864), wife of Charles III, duke of Parma, did find exile there. These Sèvres bowls, bearing her monogram, seem likely to have been commissioned as a souvenir from her stay there, or to welcome her there.
