Description

  • ivory, metal, enamel
a gilt-metal and enamel fan, the guards and sticks decorated with filigree ropework, the sticks picked out with coloured enamels, the guards applied with silver wirework representing dragons and phoenixes, the paper leaf painted recto with a court assembly, the verso a military scene, the figures with applied jointed ivory faces and fabric clothing, circa 1850, 28cm long, and an ivory brisé fan, pierced and carved with figures in landscape, early 19th century, 19cm long

Condition

gilt metal fan: looses to silver applied work, gilt slightly rubbed and tarnished in places; enamel overall in fine condition with only very small areas of loss. the leaf splitting in and slightly torn along the top edge, minor losses down falls, essentially good order. Ivory fan: probably re-ribboned; glue stains on sticks and guards.
