Description

  • Weegee
  • EASTER SUNDAY MORNING IN HARLEM
  • gelatin silver
ferrotyped, reduction notations in pencil, credit, reproduction rights, and various publication and press stamps on the reverse, circa 1940, printed no later than 1955 (Le Ore, No. 112, 1955, p. 53, this print; Naked City, p. 199; Barth, p. 194)

Condition

This photograph, on ferrotyped double-weight paper trimmed to the image, is in generally excellent condition. Its fine condition is remarkable not only given the number of hands it likely passed through as indicated by the many publication stamps on the reverse, but also in comparison to other Weegee prints, which generally exhibit a higher degree of wear and creases from heavy handling. In high raking light, faint scuffing, a few impressions not breaking the emulsion, and tiny deposits of original retouching are visible. The corners are bumped and there is very minor edge wear. Reduction notations are written in pencil on the reverse. Also on the reverse of the print are the following stamps: 'Please Credit Photograph By Weegee'; 'Please Credit Weegee From Photo-Representatives'; 'Photo News Press / Lutetia / S. Pandis - Stuttgart - W / Weimarstrasse 19'; 'General Press Corporation / Via Melchiorre Gioia, 43 / Milano'; and '´Le Ore, Publicato nel N.,' numbered '112' and 'p 53' in pencil.
