Description

  • Peter Beard
  • 'MAUREEN GALLAGHER AND LATE-NIGHT FEEDER, 2:00AM'
  • Gelatin silver print with ink and paint

Condition

Because of its size, this print has not been removed from the frame. Upon close examination in raking light, the following are visible: a complex tear that has been repaired in the dark area to the right of Maureen; and also, to the right of Maureen in the grassy area, sensitive inpainting of another smaller repaired tear. A treatment report is available from the Photographs department upon request. As is typical of works by Peter Beard, the paper is somewhat wavy because it is floating within the frame and has been extensively illustrated. The edges are somewhat rubbed, with minor creasing at the corners. The label on the reverse of the frame reads: 'Framed with heavy weathered scaffold plank salvaged from South Lake wood pile. 6.2002 (signature illegible).' The paper collage elements are as follows: Lucky Boy Bubble Gum Wrapper (Tattoos Inside!) Text from newspapers and magazines, comprising 'Tents' Club The House of African'; "If it all went wrong, I could earn a living just talking about how it all went wrong."; 'Bless This Home (Please)'; young man holding a movie camera, and an illustration of a Christ-like figure with the initials 'P. B.' on his chest.
