Condition
This print, on double-weight semi-glossy paper, is in generally very good condition. There are several soft and sharp creases in the lower portion of the print, most notably a soft horizontal crease that runs the print's width and a 1½-inch sharp crescent-shaped crease that appears to break the emulsion near the bottom edge of the print. In raking light, extensive retouching, particularly around the figure, is visible throughout the print. None of these disturbances detract from the overall fine print quality.
The corners of the print are bumped, and there are very minor areas of edge chipping. The print was originally tipped at the bottom corners to the thin paper mount and there are losses to the reverse of the print in the corners.
There is light soiling from handling on the paper mount. On the reverse are the following annotations in pencil: '67'; '960-'; '#1327/RPS'; and 'RPS.'
This photograph, probably printed by August Sander's son, Gunther, likely dates to the 1950s. This dating is based upon the appearance of the paper, image tonality, and consultation with the artist's family.
