Condition

This photograph is on paper with a semi-glossy surface and is essentially in excellent condition. Visible in high raking light are a few occasional faint surface scuffs and scratches that do not appear to break the emulsion. There is a tiny matte deposit of indeterminate nature, possibly original retouching, near the left subject's raised leg. The mount likely was trimmed by Callahan to its current 7½-by-9¾-inch size – a not-uncommon practice for Callahan who frequently trimmed his mounts to fit into 8-by-10-inch photographic paper boxes for storage and transport. On the reverse of the mount are the following notations in an unknown hand in pencil: 'II;' 'MC207;' and 'L88.3.8.' When examined under ultra-violet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
