Catalogue Note
Affixed to the verso of the drawing is a manuscript note in ink with the title of the drawing and the relevant quotation ("'Let us not look back,' answered Hester. 'The past is gone! ...'") from chapter 18 of The Scarlet Letter. Another note, in pencil, reads, "Let the light fall on the drawing from the left hand."
