les brins peints et sculptés de putti et chinoiseries, enrichis de burgau, la feuille peinte de Minerve, Mars et Victoire, honorant un héros militaire, probablement Guillaume IV, prince d'Orange-Nassau (1711-1751), dont les armes et le portrait idéalisé sont soutenus par des putti, une branche d'oranger à droite, le verso peint de putti cueillant des oranges dans un jardin


the ivory sticks carved and painted with putti and chinoiseries heightened with burgau, the leaf painted with Minerva, Mars and Victory paying tribute to a military hero, probably William IV, Prince of Orange-Nassau (1711-1751), whose arms and idealised portrait are supported by putti, an orange branch to the right, the reverse painted with putti harvesting oranges in a garden

Condition

the sticks and guards with slight yellowing of ivory and build up of grime in carved details, some losses to burgau detailing, especially on guards. Replaced pivot. Some wear to leaf especially near guards, proedictable paint loss along folds, gold ribbon border flaking in some areas. Some foxing to reverse of leaf.
