en forme de cartouche, le couvercle et le dessous en agate brune, le couvercle  sculpté en coquillage, les montures en or et le fermoir ciselé d'ornements rocaille, apparemment non poinçonnée


cartouche-form, the lid and base of brown agate with interesting cave-like markings, the lid carved as a shell, the gold mounts and thumbpiece chased with rocaille ornament, apparently unmarked


Provenance

collection of Theodore Seligman of New York (David Theodore Seligman (1856-1907) became a lawyer in New York after graduating from Harvard Law School. In a notorious anti-Semitic scandal he was blackballed by the Union League Club for being Jewish despite his father having been its Vice President for many years);
