Condition

fully marked, some scratches on underside and very minor corrosion, wear commensurate with age, excellent marks throughout, one foot with crack, overall condition pretty good.

Catalogue Note

Les armes Hamilton sont très probablement celles d'Alexandre, 10e duc de Hamilton, 7e duc de Brandon (1767-1852). Il épousa la fille de William Beckford, fervent admirateur d'Auguste, comme le démontrent les objets insculpés de son poinçon dans le catalogue Sotheby's Mentmore en mai 1977. Le duc et son beau-père furent tous deux de très grands collectionneurs d'oeuvres d'art.


The arms are very probably those of Alexander 10th Duke of Hamilton (1767-1852). He married Susan Euphemia 2nd daughter and co-heir of William Beckford fervent admirer of Henry Auguste. The Duke and his father-in-law were both great connoisseurs
