Description
- Abraham Storck
- A Mediterranean harbour scene with travellers on the shore, a Dutch man-of-war on the left
signed and dated lower left: A : Storck Fecit/ Anno 1677
- oil on canvas
Provenance
Anonymous sale, Amsterdam, Christie's, 8 May 1995, lot 98.
Condition
The actual painting is somewhat stronger and slightly more yellow in tone, because of a dirty varnish layer.
The canvas has a fairly recent, effective relining. Stretcher marks are slightly visible along the left and right margins. No major damages are apparent. The paint layer is generally sound, if a little thin in some of the darker passages. Minor retouching can be observed in the sky and in the water. Inspection under UV light reveals some more extensive retouches in the sky and in the centre background, and a few small ones in the foreground figures.
Offered in a plain wood frame in good condition.
