Description

  • Jacques-Charles Oudry
  • A still life of a duck and a wader suspended from a nail
  • oil on canvas, unframed

Provenance

Robert & Angelique Noortman, Château de Groote Mot, Borgloon;
Their sale, Amsterdam, Sotheby's, 17/18 December 2007, lot 170.

Condition

The actual painting is stronger in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas is unlined. The paint layer is secure, a few tiny retouched losses are visible along the lower edge. No damages are visible to the naked eye. The impasto of the highlights is nicely preserved. The paint surface is under a clear varnish layer. Stretcher marks are visible to the front. Inspection under UV light reveals a scattering of tiny retouches throughout, which are more frequent in the background, and are mainly filled in craquelure. In the birds only a few small retouches are revealed. Offered unframed.
