Description

  • A forest landscape with hunters shooting birds
  • oil on canvas

Provenance

Baron von Münchhausen, Germany;
By whom sold, Amsterdam, Christie's, 9 November 1998, lot 31 (as signed: A.W.F.).

Condition

The catalogue illustration is fairly representative for the actual painting. The canvas has an old effective relining. The paint layer is generally sound, if slightly thin in some of the lighter leaves, and is under a discoloured varnish. No damages are apparent. Some minor retouching can be made out in the sky. Inspection under UV light reveals additional small scattered retouchings in the sky, and along the stretcher marks, and only minimal strengthening in the figures. Offered in a plain wood frame in good condition.
