The actual painting is a little softer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The flat single panel is cradled to the reverse, but it seems for no obvious reason. No major damages are apparent. There's a tiny fleck of paint loss to the lower left and some minor frame abrasion along the lower edge. The paint layer is secure, though some areas of abrasion are apparent, e.g. in the right and upper background, and some tiny retouches can be made out in these areas The paint surface is under a dry and discoloured varnish. Inspection under UV light reveals some additional retouches in the lower foreground, and some strengthening in the figures. Offered in a decorative gilt plaster and wood frame with some nicks and losses.
