Description
- Matthijs Schoevaerdts
- Rome: a capriccio view of the Tiber with the Castel Sant'Angelo, peasants with their cattle on the river banks
- oil on panel
Condition
The actual colours are less harsh and more vibrant than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The single panel has a faint convex bow and is bevelled to the reverse. No damages are apparent. The paint surface appears very nicely preserved with a lot of detail still intact. The paint surface is under a very dirty and discoloured varnish layer. The craquelure is somewhat more coarse in some areas. There are some minor retouchings in the sky, though inspection under UV light is impeded by the varnish. The painting would benefit from a cleaning and a fresh varnish.
Overall, in good condition.
Offered in a plain wood frame with milled borders in good condition.
