Condition

The actual painting is slightly less green in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The flat panel consists of 2 horizontal planks and the joint is reinforced to the reverse with a thick strip of wood. The joint is slightly uneven en retouching along the join is visible to the naked eye. Otherwise, no damages are apparent, and the paint layer is generally sound, though retouches can be observed in the background and background figure on the right. The paint surface is under a fairly clear layer of varnish. Inspection under UV light reveals a larger area of retouching to the lower right and upper centre, and some scattered tiny ones in the background, but only a few in the figures. Offered in a decorative carved gilt wood frame in good condition.
