Description

  • Portrait of John George I (1585-1656), Elector of Saxony, standing three-quarter length, wearing a green vest with a black cloak
  • inscribed and dated on the reverse: Johann Georg.I Dux Sax ,Elect:S.R.J.Archim.etc./ ...1611

  • oil on lime wood panel

Condition

The actual painting is slightly less red and deeper in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The thin single panel has a very fanit convex bow, but otherwise, is in good condition. The paint layer is secure and no damages are apparent. The paint surface is under a dirty varnish. Very few tiny retouchings can be observed in the background, but inspection under UV light is impeded by the dirty varnish. Overall, in good condition. Offered in a decorative carved wood frame with some old worm holes and some chips.
