Condition
The actual painitng is a bit warmer and less yellow in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has a somewhat stiff relining (wax), which has flattened the paint surface a bit, although the impasto in the clouds is nicely preserved. No major damages are apparent. The paint layer is under a somewhat dirty and thick varnish layer. Inspection under UV light is mostly impeded by the varnish, but does reveal a large area of inpaint in the sky, and some strengthening in the ships, figures and rocks.
