Condition
The painting is less red in tone and the actual colours are more vibrant than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The panel seems to consist of two planks and is flat and stable. No damages are apparent. The paint layer is secure, with a lot of detail in the highlights still intact. The paint in the sky is slightly abraded and subsequent retouchings can be made out. The paint surface is under a clear layer of varnish. Inspection under UV light reveals more extensive tiny retouches in the sky, a few in the dunes, and only minimal ones in the figures on the left.
Offered in a Dutch black wood frame in good condition.
