Description
- St. Michael
ivory with glass eyes, on a wood base inlaid with ivory on glass feet
Condition
Overall the condition of the ivory is good. There is wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There is naturally occurring hairline splitting to the surface, including around the proper right temple and proper left shoulder. The figure was carved in sections: the head, wings, forearms, hands swathes of drapery on either sides of the hips, two halves of dress around the legs were all carved separately. The proper right forearm is slightly loose. The index finger of the proper right hand and the little finger of the other hand were reattached. There is an insert glued in at at the back of the head. There are some more remnants of glue to the lower edge of the dress.
Two corners of the base were restored. There are a few losses to the inlay and a replaced flower on either side of the saint.
