Sold Christie's New York, 20 April 2007, lot 88
Condition
Overall the condition of the bronze is good. There is wear and some dirt to the surface consistent with age with rubbing to the gilding throughout and some nicks and scratches, particularly to his proper right flank. Joints are visible at both front legs. There is a patch of a different metal on the back and a soldered casting fissure across the abdomen. A further, stable fissure is at the proper left hind leg. There is a small lacuna due to a casting flaw on the underside of the tail and there are two circular holes between the legs and in the tail. The centaur has lost a separately cast attribute which was held in the hands.
