Condition
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
St. Mary of Egypt: This picture is in beautiful state. The canvas seems to be unlined and on its original stretcher, although the paint layer is quite cracked and the canvas should most likely be lined. There are a few losses in the lower right and in the center right however this is a picture in gorgeous condition which will improve greatly if properly treated.
St. Mary Magdalene: This painting may never have been restored. It is on its original stretcher and the canvas appears to be unlined. The paint layer has presumably never been cleaned yet it is quite cracked and unfortunately a lining may be required. Nonetheless, the paint layer is in gorgeous condition and if it were to be cleaned and nicely lined, the picture which will respond beautifully and be seen in a completely different light.
