Description
- The Mona Lisa
- oil on panel
Condition
The panel is flat, stable, and comprised of a single piece of wood with a very slight vertical bow. Two horizontal strips are attached to the panel for reinforcement. The painting is under a very heavy discolored varnish, making an accurate reading of restoration difficult. Perceptibile however are retouches in the face and right hand of the figure, as well as in the background to the left of the figures face. There is a very thin line of retouching running down the left third of the composition, possibly from a repaired crack in the panel. A light cleaning or new varnish could benefit the picture well. In a carved and gilt wood frame.
