Condition

Tightly relined and surface has been pressed as a result. figures still read well and painting presents a strong and impressive image. under a shiny, thick varnish. retouches and old fills can be seen on flesh tones of central figure and on the white draperies of both figures. ultraviolet light reveals extensive areas of retouching including over what appear to be old repaired tears on both figures including on their faces. In addition, there are three vertical lines of repaint running from top to bottom, possibly a result of the canvas having once been folded. In a brown wood frame with gilt design; some nicks.
