The painting is significantly yellower in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. This large canvas has quite a loose relining. The losses centre left, upper left and centre are all visible to the naked eye and in the catalogue. Similarly, the several scattered areas of restoration throughout can be made with the naked eye as these have discoloured. These paler areas of later paint are also visible in the illustration, particularly the areas of restoration in the sky. A patch of abrasion and very small losses is present in the sea lower centre as well as several surface scratches. Inspection under UV light reveals further retouchings and restoration lower left in the browns and in the sea. Offered in a later wooden frame in fair condition.
