The painting is slightly darker in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has an old but still effective relining which has not flattened the paint surface which is under a discoloured varnish. To the naked eye the painting looks a little dirty but in very good condition with the impasto and brushstorked fresh and well preserved. There is some slight abrasion in the darker tones to the right. Inspection under UV light confirms the good condition of the painting with just a few scattered retouchings flourescing. Offered in a later carved and gilt wood frame.
