L'immagine in fotografia è fedele all'originale. La superficie pittorica appare ad occhio nudo pulita e stabile, nonchè priva di danni o cadute. L'osservazione con la lampada di Wood denuncia solo la presenza di alcune reintegrazioni pittoriche localizzate, in particolare sulla guancia destra del gentiluomo, sul sopracciglio sinistro e sulla curva fra guancia e mento, parimenti a sinistra. L'opera è offerta in asta all'interno di una cornice intagliata e dorata in stile
