Condition
Painting on original canvas.From a first-hand inspection there some abrasions with minor losses are visible along the edges due to the frame. The ultra violet light reveals thick fluorescent varnish dishomogeneously spread over the surface, no restoration nor retouch. The overall condition as to the state of preservation is excellent. Opera in prima tela.Ad un primo esame si nota la presenza di alcune abrasioni con piccole cadute di materia pittorica lungo i bordi dovute alla battitura della cornice.L'esame alla lampada di Wood rivela uno spesso strato di vernice fortemente fluorescente e disomogeneamente distribuita, senza presenza di ritocchi e restauri.L'opera si presenta in ottime condizioni di conservazione.

Lo stesso soggetto fu trattato da Caprile in un'opera di formato più ridotto (45 x 34 cm), probabilmente realizzata precedentemente a quella quì proposta, con l'aggiunta della figura di una bambina sulla sinistra, offerta all'asta dalla Galleria Scopinich di Milano nel 1934 con il titolo Le tre età (Collezione Z.P. tav. VI). Il Sogno è pittoricamente più finito rispetto a Le tre età , e ha un impianto compositivo più sobrio e sintetico che conferisce all'opera un effetto di estrema modernità .
