Description

  • Filippo Lauri
  • Apollo and Marsyas
  • signed with monogram lower right: F.L
  • oil on copper

Condition

The stable, flat support consists of a single horizontal sheet of copper. There are eleven small spots of paint loss scattered across the painting (as are visible in the catalogue illustration), but the signed paint surface is otherwise secure, if dirty, with the detail well-preserved. Inspection under UV light is slightly impeded by the varnish covering the work but seems to reveal just a handful of scattered retouchings to the painting, leaving large passages original. Offered in a gilt wood frame with a few minor losses and slightly rubbed.
