The stable support seems to consist of a single panel. This has a very slight convex bow. The paint surface is fairly dirty and under an uneven varnish. There are areas of lifting to the curtain upper left, but otherwise the paint seems secure. There is some abrasion apparent in the red and brown pigments used in the foreground figures and drapery. Some retouchings to these areas have become discoloured and are hence visible to the naked eye. There is a very fine diagonal split in the paint surface, measuring approx. 20cm. lower right. Inspection under UV light reveals some fairly extensive retouchings to the curtain upper left and fewer scattered retouchings to the foreground, leaving large passages untouched. Offered in an ornate gilt wood and plaster frame in good condition, with a few minor losses.
