Probably the Rev. Bowyer Adderley (1787-1872) of Fillongley Hall, Warwickshire;
Thence by descent.
Condition
The canvas has a firm relining. The paint surface is secure and in good condition under a very dirty varnish. There are two old restored unobtrusive damages centre left of the Madonna each approx. 3 cm squared. Inspection under UV light reveals some scattered retouchings most notably to the darker areas of the background, the Madonna's skirt and the right hand putti's swath of blue material.
Offered in a gilt wood and plaster frame.
