Condition
STRUCTURE
The canvas has been lined.
PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be in very good condition and retains some of the original impasto in the highlights of the neck tie. There are a small number of very minor retouchings in the background, upper left and right, visible under strong light, and in the blue of the sitter's sash. There are two very minor surface scratches running horizontally through the upper centre of the picture.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light confirms the minor retouching mentioned above and reveals no further restoration.
FRAME
Held in a gilded wooden frame.
