Condition
Both of the canvases have relinings, which have not overly flattened their paint surfaces.
Their paint surfaces are secure and in good condition, under a thick varnish.
Both canvases have short stretches of frame abrasion along the left hand margin. The former painting has an old restored tear, approximately 10cm. long, running vertically from the right hand side of the lower margin, which is visible in raking light. No other major damages are discernible.
Inspection of the paintings under UV light is impeded by the reflective varnish but does confirm the retouchings to aforementioned tear and further reveals extensive retouchings and strengthenings to both works. The craquelure has been filled in patches of both paintings.
Offered in carved and gilt wood frames in good condition, if a little rubbed.
