Condition
The canvas is relined. Overall this painting is in a very healthy state of preservation. Quite good retention of original coloration and paint. Some impasto remains in the colorful drapery of the sitter. Only a few minor retouches are visible under UV. A small spot beside the nose, a couple of very small retouches in the chest, and a small repaired puncture in the lower right section by the frame. Otherwise in good condition and may be hung as is. In a carved gilt wood frame.

Catalogue Note
The painting is most probably an early work by the artist; we are grateful to Alastair Laing for pointing out that the sitter's hairstyle would suggest a dating around the end of the first decade of the 18th century. In a letter to the current owner, the attribution was endorsed by Hal Opperman on the basis of photographs.
