Catalogue Note

This charming picture, which appeasr to be unrecorded, is unusual in Pynacker's oeuvre in including a white horse prominent in the foreground.  Typical for him on the other hand is the strong accent of red in the skirt of the peasant girl.

The same wax seal, with the words 'RICQUIER NOTAIRE A ROUEN' around the edge, surrounding three fleur-de-lys surmounted by a crown can be found on the reverse of Adam Frans van der Meulen's Wooded Landscape with Horsemen on a Road  at Brodick Castle, Scotland, which had previously been in the collection of Augustin Blondel de Gagny (1695-1776).
