Description
- Jan Miense Molenaer
- An interior with a man holding a flute, and two children playing with their toys
- oil on oak panel, circular
Provenance
Lord Cavendish-Bentinck (according to a label on the reverse);
Anonymous Sale, Zurich, Koller, 20 - 23 March 2007, lot no. 3023.
Condition
The catalogue image is representative.
The flat, stable support consists of a single circular bevelled panel which has not been cradled.
The paint surface is secure with the details of the work well-preserved. Some retouchings are visible to the naked eye, such as to the gentleman's hat and to the background around the right hand child's head.
Inspection under UV light confirms these retouchings and further reveals a handful of scattered spot retouchings to the background and to the face of the man, the shadow of the left hand child's face, and their clothing.
Offered in a modern, square, northern-style frame in good condition.
