Anonymous sale, Paris, Galerie Charpentier, 2 December 1952, lot 59.
Condition
The colours are slightly darker than the image suggests. The support probably originally consisted of four horizontal panels. The central and principal join can be seen in the catalogue illustration. The central two panels on eitehr side of this have irregular splits, the upper having two: a shorter split on the left margin and a longer one running the entire width of the painting. The joins and splits have all been repaired and are now hold by a serious of wooden battens affixed to the reverse. The panels remain flat and stable, and there have been some very minor losses along the lowest of the joins. The paint surface is now covered with a thick and discoloured layer of old varnish. The old varnish impedes inspection under ultra-violet light, but in general the overall condition of the paint surface beneath appears to be good. Some old minor damages are visisble to the joins and splits, some of the peaches, the background leaves, and to the background and lower foreground in general, but overall the condition seems to be good with many fine details preserved.
This lot is sold unframed.
