Condition

The single panel is flat and stable. The paint surface is clean and secure and appears to the naked eye to the be in good condition. Inspection under UV light reveals minor scattered retouchings in the sky but otherwise confirms the good condition. Offered in a modern black frame in good condition.

Catalogue Note

A cabinet maker as well as a painter, the Haarlem-born de Verwer is first recorded working in Amsterdam in 1607. The topography of many of his drawings suggests that he travelled widely in France before returning to Amsterdam in the 1640s.
