Catalogue Note

Besides his successful career as a painter of genre subjects, Van Slingelandt made a speciality of producing small oval miniature portraits.  A pair of similar portraits, also on oval coppers, but framed with a frieze of Amphitrite en grisaille by Willem van Mieris, are in the Rijksmuseum (inv. no. A 1983), and he also produced miniature drawn portraits on vellum.1
