Description

  • Pieter van Bloemen, called Standaard
  • Study of a Horse
  • Black chalk heightened with white on blue paper

Provenance

Dr. A. Welcker (L.2793c), with his inventory no. 816;
with Kunsthandel Willem Sloot, Amsterdam;
sale, Amsterdam, Sotheby's, 21 November 1989, lot 57

Condition

The sheet is not laid down. There are several brown stains and scattered foxing throughout the sheet. There is a vertical fold running from the top of the sheet to the bottom that has cracked in places and has been partially repaired (visible on the verso). There is some water damage at the upper margin. However the medium remains fresh and the condition issues do not detract from the chalk drawing.
