Catalogue Note

The majority of Visscher's beautiful portrait drawings are in black chalk on vellum, so the present example is unusual in its technique.  However, the depiction of the sitter is reminiscent of the signed Portrait of a Lady, from the Klaver Collection, sold Amsterdam, Sotheby's, 10 May 1994, lot 28.
