Catalogue Note

Gianoli studied in Milan with the painter Carlo Antonio Rossi.  After having spent time in Rome, possibly in the studio of Sacchi, he returned to Valsesia.  Gianoli was active in the Sacro Monte of Varallo in 1665 and again in 1679.  His style was strongly influenced by that of Tanzio da Varallo, as can be clearly seen in this drawing.
