Condition

In general the colours have remained strong and fresh however, some of the more delicate watercolour pigments have faded slightly. There is some occasional paper discolouration and some minor surface dirt. This work has been laid down.

Catalogue Note

Built in 1859 by the Maitland-Wilson family, Stowlangtoft Hall is situated in western Suffolk. This drawing has been attributed to Edward Adveno Brooke who exhibited at the Royal Academy and British Institution between 1853 and 1864. His most celebrated achievement was a series of twenty-four lithographic plates, entitled The Gardens of England, which was published in 1857.
