    the first signed lower left: Jean Pillement / 1794;
    the fifth extensively inscribed with artist's notes;
    the sixth later inscribed in pencil, lower left: my fathers drawing of Chester; further later inscribed in pencil, lower right: Humphrey Repton / (1752-1818)

Condition

The Rows at Chester: The medium has been well preserved in this work. There is some very minor surface dirt to the paper and there is a repaired tear in the margin, at the right hand edge of the sheet. This work has not been laid down, instead it is attached to the back-board at various points verso.
