Catalogue Note

The handling in the trees in particular is very similar to certain drawings by Buytewech, such as the view of the Binnenhof in The Hague, now in the Lugt Collection1, while other aspects of the foreground hatching, as well as the delicate use of grey wash in conjunction with brown, also suggest that this charming landscape was made by a Haarlem artist who was very familiar with Buytewech's groundbreaking drawings.
