Catalogue Note

Schouman executed numerous watercolours of birds, drawing many of his specimens from examples seen at royal zoos and natural history collections including that of the Stadholder Willem V.   He often included a landscape frieze to show the birds in a naturalistic setting.  See Laurens J. Bol, Aart Schouman, Doornspijk 1991.
