Laid down on very fine japan paper. Large watermark top left. Water stain across top of sheet.

Catalogue Note

Guillaumet was a successful painter, exhibiting at the Salon and winning many medals.  He travelled extensively in Algeria and painted Orientalist subjects.  This impressive study is undoubtedly done from life, probably in North Africa.
