The colours are rather brighter and stronger than in the illustration. The canvas has an old rigid relining and has recently been cleaned and restored. The overall condition is reasonably good but some glazes have now been lost, especially to the Madonna's cloak and there has been much strengthening here, as well as to the yellow background behind her head. There are small repaired tears to her nose, to the right of her face and to the top of her dress. The restoration is carefully carried out and does not require further attention. This lot is sold unframed
